Janna Day M.Ed

Registered Psychologist

Janna is a registered psychologist holding a Master’s degree in School and Applied Child Psychology. Janna first obtained a B.A. in Psychology with honours from Dalhousie University.

During her studies, she conducted research in literacy (spelling development) and early social development (children’s observational versus interactional learning). She then earned a Bachelor of Education at Acadia University, gaining international teaching experience in China and the United Arab Emirates. These experiences enriched her understanding of cultural influences in education. With a focus on supporting students and families with complex needs, including those with Autism Spectrum, severe anxiety, and classroom outbursts, Janna went on to complete a Master of Education in School and Applied Child Psychology at the University of Calgary. During her program, she held a lead position in a school division in British Columbia, where she conducted numerous psychoeducational assessments, coordinated specialized services, and collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams.

Since joining Moroz Child Psychology in 2018, Janna has excelled in building strong client relationships and feels honoured to assist families in navigating difficulties with greater ease. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), effectively addressing anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues alongside Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) for adolescents facing severe emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and other high-risk behaviours.

Janna also brings expertise in exposure and response prevention to treat clients with obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD) and is recognized for her success in supporting LGBTQIA2S+ youth. Janna further provides executive functioning coaching for attentional and behavioural challenges, and she co-facilitates the office’s social skills program, where she teaches the nuanced, unspoken rules that are essential for social success. Janna has specialized training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a parent-only program that guides them in reducing their child’s anxiety through adjustments in their own behaviours.

Janna’s clinical background in psychoeducational assessment goes beyond delivering a set of standardized scores, focusing more so on understanding the whole child. She delves deeply into a person’s challenges to identify root causes and contributing factors. Drawing from her experience as a classroom teacher, Janna crafts personalized treatment plans, providing practical and thoughtful solutions tailored to each client's unique needs.

Having spent much of her 20s living abroad, Janna has a deep love for travel, whether it's exploring internationally or visiting Canada's east coast, where she grew up and where most of her family still resides. A former competitive dancer, she continues to enjoy dancing in her free time, along with life’s simple pleasures such as discovering treasures while thrift-shopping, attending comedy shows, and getting lost in a good book.
